Why Shelly?

Shelly is the classic among compact smart home controllers: tiny in-wall modules that fit directly into switch boxes, behind switches or into the distribution board – with no mandatory app and no forced cloud. The devices speak Wi-Fi by default and can be controlled via the Shelly app, the web interface, Home Assistant, Alexa, Google Home or Matter.

  • Directly on the network via Wi-Fi – no separate hub required
  • Gen3/Gen4 modules with Wi-Fi 6, BLE, Zigbee and Matter
  • Relays with up to 16 A / 3680 W and built-in power monitoring
  • Z-Wave devices (Wave series) for a much greater range – outdoors and across floors too
  • Pro series for the DIN rail in the distribution board, with LAN port
  • BLU sensors: tiny Bluetooth sensors with up to 4 years of battery life

Frequently asked questions about Shelly

Do I need a separate bridge or hub for Shelly devices?

For most Wi-Fi devices, no: they connect directly to your WLAN and are operated via the Shelly app or the web interface. The exception is BLU sensors (Bluetooth), which need a Shelly BLU Gateway or another Shelly device with Bluetooth as a bridge.

What do Gen3 and Gen4 mean for Shelly?

Gen3 modules work over classic Wi-Fi/BLE and offer local control. The Gen4 range additionally uses Wi-Fi 6, Zigbee and Matter (Thread bridge), making it even faster and easier to integrate into smart home ecosystems – such as Home Assistant, Apple Home or Amazon Alexa.

Which wireless standard suits me?

If your WLAN is stable, Wi-Fi modules (Gen3/Gen4) are enough. If you want to keep your network from being overloaded or need a greater range, choose the Wave series (Z-Wave Long Range) or BLU sensors with a gateway. For commercial use and the distribution board, the Pro series with LAN port is ideal.
