What is the Dreame N20 Steam?
The Dreame N20 Steam is a portable carpet and upholstery spot cleaner based on the spray-scrub-extract principle: the cleaning solution is sprayed on and brushed in, then the unit extracts the dirty water back out with up to 17,000 Pa of suction. What sets it apart is the combination of steam and hot water with four modes (Wash, Hot Wash, Steam Wash, Steam), automatic dosing of the cleaning solution and one-press self-cleaning that flushes the hose in around 40 seconds. Clean and dirty water are kept in separate tanks: 1.2 l of clean water plus 0.6 l of cleaning solution with auto-dosing, and 0.75 l of dirty water. The handheld unit is controlled via a touchscreen. In Germany the 230 V version has been widely available since 2026 – unlike the US variant 'N20 Steam Plus' with 120 V, which cannot be operated here.
The N20 Steam is part of Dreame's N20 series and combines cleaning solution, steam and extraction in a portable handheld unit. In Germany it is sold as the 230 V version; in this review we focus on that EU version.
Also in our tests: more upholstery & steam cleaners
The N20 Steam isn't the only spot cleaner in our line-up. We took a closer look at three rival models with steam or suction cleaning: the Bissell SpotClean HydroSteam as a brand classic, the lubluelu V11 with a wheeled base, the Shark StainStriker as an affordable cold-water extractor and the steam rival uwant Y100 Steam.
Steam & Hot Water: How the Dreame N20 Steam Cleans
Here's how the N20 Steam tackles upholstery, carpets and more – from steam release to extraction.
Steam & Hot Water Function
According to the manufacturer, the boiler produces steam up to 100 °C and hot water up to 70 °C. The steam is applied to the fabric together with the cleaning solution and loosens set-in, greasy dirt.
17,000 Pa Suction
The unit extracts the dirty water back out of the fabric with up to 17,000 Pa – the basis of stain removal. For the motor the data sheet states 600 W, while one source alternatively cites 1800 W.
4 Cleaning Modes
Wash and Hot Wash for basic cleaning, Steam Wash combines steam with cleaning solution, Steam works with an emphasis on steam – conveniently selected via the touchscreen.
One-Press Self-Cleaning
At the push of a button, the self-cleaning flushes the hose in around 40 seconds to reduce residue and odour build-up.
Cleaning Performance, Features & Controls
Water Tanks and Steam Modes
A 1.2-litre clean water tank feeds the spray nozzle, while the cleaning solution (0.6 l) is dosed automatically. The dirty water ends up separately in the 0.75-litre used water container. The touchscreen lets you choose from four modes: Wash and Hot Wash for basic cleaning, Steam Wash for stubborn stains and Steam for steam-focused freshening. According to the manufacturer the steam reaches up to 100 °C and is ready in roughly 35 seconds according to retailer information.
Steam and Hot Water: How Hot Does It Really Get?
Dreame states steam up to 100 °C and hot water up to 70 °C; the boiler heats to about 170 °C within seconds according to the manufacturer. We have not carried out an independent measurement with a thermometer – in any case, steam, cleaning solution and mechanical brush action together are responsible for dissolving stains. The manufacturer does not publish an official heat-up time; retailers cite around 35 seconds.
Handling: Carry Instead of Pull
Unlike the lubluelu V11, the N20 Steam has no wheeled base and no rollers – at around 5.5 kg it is carried and set down next to the spot being cleaned. The 1.5-metre hose and 4.6-metre cord are enough for sofas, stairs and car seats, but require frequent bending when cleaning the floor. Operation is via a touchscreen.
Self-Cleaning & Accessories
The one-press self-cleaning flushes the hose in around 40 seconds after use. The box contains a standard stain brush, a small round brush, a crevice brush, a concentrator nozzle and an accessory connector.

Together with the Bissell HydroSteam, lubluelu V11 and uwant Y100 Steam, the Dreame N20 Steam is one of the few portable units with a real steam function – the Shark StainStriker, by contrast, works on a cold-water basis. With four modes and automatic solution dosing, the Dreame offers the most versatile controls in this round and sits price-wise between the affordable lubluelu V11 and the more established Bissell. Against the Bissell it scores with a touchscreen and four instead of three modes, and against the uwant with more modern controls and a solid EU rating record. If you're after an affordable all-round steam cleaner with user-friendly controls, the Dreame N20 Steam is the right pick; if you want maximum brand reassurance, go for the Bissell, and if price is your priority, the lubluelu V11.
Who is the Dreame N20 Steam For?
Households with pets, children or light-coloured upholstery looking for an affordable steam spot cleaner for targeted use – on the sofa, carpet, mattress or in the car – and who value a solid EU rating average and modern touchscreen controls.

FAQ About the Dreame N20 Steam
Our Verdict
The Dreame N20 Steam convinces as an affordable all-round steam cleaner with four cleaning modes, 17,000 Pa suction, automatic solution dosing and one-press self-cleaning. In a direct comparison, the Bissell SpotClean HydroSteam offers the more established brand base, while uwant and lubluelu deliver partly more suction or a lower price. If you're looking for a modern, touchscreen-operated steam spot cleaner at an attractive price and can live with the contradictory manufacturer figures and the small dirty water tank, you won't go far wrong with the N20 Steam – provided leather, velvet and waxed wood surfaces stay off-limits.
