Football Goal Buying Guide 2026:
180, 240 or 300 cm?
Before you buy a football goal for the garden, you should know these points. Our guide explains goal sizes, materials and safety – so you don't pay for space you don't actually need.
Which Goal Size Is Right for Me?
The Racetex range comes in three sizes with identical equipment: 180 × 120 cm, 240 × 160 cm and 300 × 200 cm (width × height). The only difference between the sizes is the goal area – material, padding, net and accessories are identical.
Assess the space realistically
Besides the goal width itself, plan for space for the goalkeeper and for balls that go over or past the goal. Rule of thumb: at least 1.5 times the goal width in clear space in front of the goal, plus a safe distance from windows, flower beds or the neighbour's property.
Consider the age group
For children from around 3–6 years, the smallest size is usually more than enough. For teenagers and adults in club training, the largest option is worthwhile to create realistic training conditions.
Material & Weatherproofing
According to the manufacturer, all three sizes use reinforced steel poles with a rust-proof coating plus additional UV protection. The net is described as high-quality polyester in the product description, but as HDPE (polyethylene) on a packaging graphic – either way, it's a tear-resistant synthetic-fibre net with reinforced mesh.
All-round padding for extra safety
According to the manufacturer, the posts and crossbar are fully padded with roughly 20 mm of foam. This significantly reduces the risk of injury on impact, which is especially relevant for younger children.
What independent reviews say about durability
The user test on gorillacheck.de confirms that the rust-proof coating holds up even after rain showers, with no rust spots. A point occasionally raised in reviews is that the padding could wear over time with very intensive use – long-term experience spanning several years is not yet widely available.
Assembly, Ground Anchors & Everyday Safety
Quick assembly via a plug-together system
The goals are assembled using a tool-free plug-together system. An illustrated step-by-step manual is included; according to product images, it's available in several languages. Consistent reviews confirm straightforward assembly within a few minutes to about 30 minutes, though some criticise missing detail in the manual.
6 ground anchors for a secure hold
According to the product listing, each goal comes with 6 ground anchors for securing it to the ground. These help prevent the goal from tipping over in wind or after a hard shot. On very soft or sandy ground, additional securing may be worthwhile.
2-in-1: target panels in the net
According to the manufacturer, target panels are built into the net, so the goal doubles as a target for focused shooting practice – without any extra accessories.
Supervision for children
Even with padding and ground anchors, children should be supervised near the goal, particularly during assembly and disassembly and during unsupervised play.
