Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState 1.18 l in our test
The Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState is the bottle that shaped the drinking-bottle model of recent years. 1.18 litres of volume, 90 percent recycled 18/8 stainless steel, double-wall vacuum insulation with eleven hours of cold retention, a lid that rotates into three positions with a drinking straw, and a handle that fits into any cup holder. On idealo the price ranges from 27 to 143 € – the spread is real and not just special-offer noise.
The Quencher and its three lid positions
The genius of the H2.0 generation is the FlowState lid. It rotates into three positions: with a drinking straw, with a narrow drinking opening, or as a full closure for the rucksack. In practice that means you can use the bottle in the office like a cup and close it completely on the way to the sport without having to swap the lid.
The supplied drinking straw is leakproof. Actual leakage only occurs if you tilt the bottle with the lid fitted – and most Stanley owners experience that exactly once and then leave the lid open.
Eleven hours cold – what an insulated steel bottle delivers
Stanley states eleven hours of cold retention and 48 hours on ice. For comparison: the Owala FreeSip Sway promises 24 hours, as does the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth. The number alone says little, because the test conditions are not standardised – what matters is whether the bottle is pre-filled and how warm the room is.
We rate the Quencher as the balanced compromise: stainless steel keeps the taste neutral, is shatterproof and can be washed in the dishwasher without hesitation – if you dismantle the lid first.
The handle that fits the cup holder
The reason for this bottle's success is less the insulation than the geometry: the handle with its grip recesses is shaped so that the bottle fits into any cup holder in a car seat and into most bicycle holders. Anyone driving with a cylindrical steel bottle without a handle ends up securing it in the boot.
Against the convenience speaks the height: 31.8 cm is too much for many rucksack and sports bottle holders. If you transport the bottle in a rucksack, you need a shorter variant or the 0.8-litre Quencher.
Price spread and counterfeits
On idealo, 142 offers for this bottle range from 26.99 to 142.90 euros. The lower range is normal pricing, the upper range consists almost exclusively of collector's editions and limited colourways. At this price difference it is worth looking at the serial number: collection models without a cardboard box and without a QR code have become counterfeits with increasing frequency in recent years.
Our recommendation: buy below 50 euros, check the serial number on the box and stick with retailers that offer a right of return.
Verdict
The Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState remains the standard against which stainless steel drinking bottles have to measure: robust, leakproof when drinking, dishwasher safe and with a handle that fits any cup holder. The eleven hours of cold retention are below the 24 hours of the other two bottles in our test, but the build is the most robust of the field.
If you want maximum cold retention, the Hydro Flask or Owala are better choices. If you use the bottle in the car every day, there is no way around the Quencher.

Frequently asked questions about the Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState 1.18 l
Stanley states eleven hours for chilled drinks and 48 hours for drinks on ice. For comparison: Owala and Hydro Flask both state 24 hours. In practice, in warm weather with a pre-filled bottle, all three are closer together than the advertising suggests.
1.18 litres, 10.0 × 14.8 × 31.8 cm (the width including the handle) and 650 grams. idealo only quotes a diameter of 10 centimetres – the total width of 14.8 centimetres comes from Stanley itself.
With the drinking straw fitted, yes – the straw is designed to be leakproof. The complete bottle with lid is not: if you lay it on its side with the lid closed, it leaks. To carry it in a rucksack you must turn the lid to the full-closure position.
The lower range is the normal price. Above 80 euros it is almost always limited colour variants and collector's editions produced in small numbers. These models are inevitably more expensive – for everyday use they are not needed.
Yes, Stanley sells replacement straws for around 15 euros each. The supplied straw is replaceable, which sooner or later becomes relevant with a bottle that is used daily.
